AMBRA SENATORE CHOREGRAPHER
PASSO (2010)  creation
FOR THE FIRST TIME AT THÉÂTRE DE LA VILLE

(Step/Gait)

LIGHT IRONY

From Italy, Ambra Senatore is the bearer of good news. In a country where culture, yet so rich, is knocked about by a political regime which has no consideration for contemporary creation, and for dance in particular, it is almost miraculous to see that a few stubborn artists can still find their way through sincere commitment. Here comes Ambra Senatore, based in Turin, and welcomed for the first time by the Théâtre de la Ville. From a first duo in 2009 which was awarded a prize by an international jury at the Fondazione Musica per Roma, Ambra Senatore developed, together with her dancers, a material whose simplicity and eloquence are just amazing. With a very subtle writing which seems to fade behind the pristine beauty of spontaneity, Passoflirts with the childish grace of first steps, cultivates the light irony of movement avoiding excessive pathos. The piece delivers all the subtle and profound shades of bodily games, which wittingly lead to the double path of self-quest and social belonging. Elegance and style do what is left to be done and give Passo the charm of a gracefully unexpected piece.
